Preparing For Thanksgiving

If our lives are too stressed, it is hard to be patient, and we tend to be less peaceful.  If people have not been listened to, they will not feel patient or loved.

For The Family’s Sake
Susan Schaeffer Macaulay

When I think about preparing for Thanksgiving, what comes to mind are these questions;
With whom will we spend that special day?
The menu, planning and shopping for ingredients, table settings and table arrangements… how will that all work out?
However, one item of importance that I always forget to include in my plan is how to do this and still keep my household peaceful.  How do I not let the preparations of the day get in the way of loving my family?  Is what I am doing glorifying God?
A stressful mother/daughter during the holidays is a recipe for …
What do you think the answer is?
I would love to hear your comments on this subject.

A stressful mother/daughter during the holidays is a recipe for forgetting the One Who made our "thanksgiving" possible or even logical, for driving a wedge between family members at a time when the communion among them ought to be sweet and restful, and also, it is a recipe for regret. But what better time than this, should the above condition be the case, to seize the opportunity to beg forgiveness of our Savior for worshiping the celebration instead of Him, and to share in Holiday-Humble Pie with those we love.
Thank you so much for your sweet blog, Christa. I miss you and your dear family.

I can't help but wonder if you are the mother or the daughter. I have two grown daughters (one still living at home) and it helped us to get a mediator to help with our conflicts. That being another neutral Christian to help us back to a great relationship. It helps.

We often get lured into the trap of trying to have everything perfect and forget the REASON behind the celebrating.

"A stressful mother/daughter during the holidays is a recipe for"...a stressful and uptight home...where there is an atmosphere of unrest and no peace.

Why oh why do we do this to ourselves???

How do we regain tranquility in the midst of it all?? Really, I think we all know the answer...

True peace can only be found in the Lord. Strive to keep things simple and continually direct our focus to the Lord through it all. He will give ALL that is needed moment by moment if we will look to Him for the grace and strength required. Set aside time in the morning...before anything has begun and meditate in the Scriptures...easy to say...hard to put into practice...but so worthwhile!

What a great post Christa!

Enjoy your holidays!
With Love,
Camille

Amazing how we have all been thinking along the same thoughts.

My post is also along the same lines...we must remember that it is to HIM that we must lift our voices in thanks!
