Learning Fondant

In all my experience as a cake decorator,
I never learned how to work with fondant.
If you know anything about what is in
“fashion” for cakes these days, fondant
may come to mind.
When I had my cake business many years
ago, buttercream was it.
However, times have changed in the cakery
world.
Many are asking for this sweet covering so
It’s time for me to learn.
I choose Sweet Wise for my learning experience.
A two hour class was packed full of
information and it was fun.

My little cake that I made, was very
perky and cute when I left the class.
But then I made a Costco, Joann’s and
Whole Foods run in our hot and humid
Tennessee weather.
Yes, now the bow on my sweet little cake is a
little droopy.
But you get the picture right?

Sweet Wise is a cake, candy and
pastry supply shop located in
Nashville.
The store is packed full of wonderful
Cookie cutters, candy molds, cake
decorating supplies…
Wonderful baking gadgets!
Cake pans and everything else you
need to decorate a cake!
Visit Sweet Wise at their website
Enjoy your visit!
Warm Country Blessings,
Christa

Wow, your cake looks great. Does fondant taste like frosting? I've watched people use it on TV but never tasted it. Your bow is darling. I can see how our heat and humidity would make anything droop!

Your cake looks fantastic...I'm so glad you took the class...so fun! It is one of my addictions to browse stores with all the fun kitchen gear, cake pans, etc.

It's wild how things have changed in the cake world! I wonder what our great Grandma's did?

Christa, your cake is LOVELY! Looks like you got your technique down on the first try!

You won't believe where I've been all morning... The Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, CA. My oldest is planning to attend and we got to tour the school and see a cooking demo/class and a chocolate/ganache demo. The pasties and cakes at this place must be amazing! A friend of mine who owns a cake decorating business got to take a seminar there. Wish I could have had you with me today! You'd have loved it.

Hi Mrs. JP,
I have to be honest with you that I have never tasted fondant before. It doesn't really seam appetizing to me. I guess I should taste it so I know what I'm putting on these cakes.

Amy,
What a wonderful opportunity to tour a place like that. I wish I could have been there too.

Thank you all for you kind comments.

Your fondant looks perfect to me! Even after your Tennessee weather it looks fantastic so I know it was 'perfection upon completion'!

Be Blessed today!

p.s. The deer on my post didn't see me because I opened the window from our house very slowly and quietly, and she was sort of sleeping/dreaming! ;~P She was waiting for some apples to fall and she wanted to be the first one there!

Gae,
Let me encourage you with this. If someone made a cake for me I would prefer a more homemade one like you described. There is something special about a cake that is made from the heart. I'm sure your confirmation cakes will be so greatly appreciated. :0)
