Cassaundra starting the layering process.
Cassaundra is layering her quilt with the backing down first, then the batting and Lastly, the quilt top. This quilt is called the Year-Long Sampler Quilt designed by Debbie Mumm. My friend Mary and I taught Cassaundra and other young ladies how to quilt using this pattern. The girls' ages ranged from 12 to 15 years old. We were amazed how quickly they learned. After teaching them on two or three blocks, they didn't need any more instruction. Maybe just a helpful hint here and there is all they needed.
The final layer is added before she begins to baste the quilt with special safety pins designed for this purpose.
One of the traditional ways to baste a quilt is using a needle and thread.
Using the safety pins saves a lot of time.
