Homeschool Dropouts DVD

Why the Second Generation is Now Headed for a Spiritual Wasteland

The "first generation" home schooling movement is almost three decades old. It has been a stunning success. Even the most critical skeptics admit this. "But," they ask, "what about the second generation? Will the homeschool graduates do what their teachers did?"

This is the real test of any teacher, especially a parent. Does the student understand the importance of the lesson? Will the second generation continue to build on the legacy of independent home education, or abandon what their parents so bravely began?

The Botkin siblings have been talking to their peers around the United States, many of whom are planning futures that do not include home education. Is this the first sign of homeschooling failure? This documentary examines the history of the movement and the character that will be required to sustain it into the second generation and beyond.

Go here to pre-order this DVD and to watch a sampling of what it will contain.

This subject has been heavy on my heart for some time now. I hope you will order this DVD and share it with others.

My sister and I are the first (and so far only people in our family) who are homeschooling our children. I pray my children will see the benefit and do the same.

Hi Christa, thanks for pointing out the movie. When I wrote my series on homeschooling and the usual objections too it became clear it is simply our desire to reject God's plan for our families that leads Christians to not homeschool. We need to return to what God's plan is for His people and not seek man's plans.

Thanks again.

Hi Again: On reading what I wrote it did not sound as I desired as it relates to the DVD, at least to me it did not.

The issue is that far too many that do homeschool do not do so because of a biblical conviction and mandate but for pragmatic, countercultural and a myriad of other reasons. If we do not ground our reasons for homeschooling in scripture and instill that in our children they will have no foundation when they make their decisions later in life. Even if they do homeschool their children they will not instill the correct foundations in them and the next generation will inevitably be so far away from the purpose for homeschooling they will leave.

When I previously spoke of rejecting God’s plan for families it can relate to those that do not homeschool at all but it can also do so to those that do. If we homeschool and our primary reason is not firmly grounded in God’s plan for the family we have rejected His plan even if our outward actions appear to align. We are to homeschool because God calls us to. Not some ethereal call but in a clear call from His word. We are to homeschool out of obedience to Him and as a form of worship to Him and pass that on to our children.

I hope that was more clear.
